Mimi's Art Studio

Mimi's Art Studio is Sammis' newest venture. Mimi's Art Studio is a painting and fine art appreciation television show, first aired on Rhode Island PBS in fall 2005 and currently running weekly. The show brings to its viewers fine art painting techniques, insight into the creative process, conversations with other artists, and new ways to see the world around us. While she demonstrates techniques in acrylics, watercolor, and pastels, Mimi's aim is to draw her audience into the creative process, sharing her joy in art and in the world around us. Her informal, wise, and witty style has led viewers of the show to call her "the Julia Child of painting." We are excited to announce the program will be going national in the spring! The show can be seen on Saturdays at 2:00 P.M. on RI PBS broadcast channel channel 36 & cable channel 8.

Mimi's sculpture Dove Of Peace is being awarded to the United Nations Secretary-General's wife, Mrs. Kofi Annan, for her work with children throughout the world. This event took place during the student observance of the International Day of Peace.

Dancing On The World - Art in Embassies - Paris

Mimi is honored to have her sculpture Dancing On The World exhibited at the United States Embassy in Paris for the next three years. The work has been placed in the center of the Octagonal Room, through which all guests (on average 10,000 guests per year) pass when entering the Residence. Dancing On The World is part of the exhibit entitled The Ties That Bind.

Recently, the Narragansett Town Council accepted ownership of the 21 foot tall Dance of Peace sculpture and overwhelmingly passed the motion to keep the sculpture on the green at the Narragansett Town Beach.

The sculpture has become a cherished landmark in South County.

In His Hands

Once again the Anglican Consultative Council used Mimi's sculpture He Has The Whole World In His Hands as a symbol representing their efforts with the 49th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. The topic this year was Repairing the World: Anglican Women's Faith In Action. The sculpture was on display in the Lobby of the Episcopal Church Center at 815 Second Ave, NY NY 25 February through 9 March 2005. The Anglican Consultative Council previously made use of Mimi's sculpture as a symbol during the 48th Session.

Ms. Sammis was commissioned to create the first memorial dedicated to the Women Veterans of Rhode Island. The memorial, honoring the women of the five branches of the armed services was unveiled at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island.

Mimi's sculpture Nine Eleven was selected for inclusion in the National Sculpture Society's exhibition "In Remembrance, September 11".
